Watch A Volcano-Themed Video Installation Being Released By A-Ton
The Ostgut Ton sister label will release Inland’s debut LP and video art concept on September 26.
Ed Davenport (a.k.a. Inland) has long been a regular at both Panorama Bar and Berghain. With An Invitation To Disappear, which will hit the stores on September 28, the DJ and producer will also join the Berghain-affiliated label family with the fifth release in the ambient techno- and soundscape-focused A-Ton series.
Based on his soundtrack for a video installation by conceptual artist Julian Charrière, Davenport has sculpted a visceral mixture of avant-electronics and ambient techno. The piece is laced with field recordings inspired by the 200th anniversary of the eruption of Indonesia’s Tambora volcano, which had a devastating effect on the earth’s climate.
According to the press release, “An Invitation To Disappear offers a contemporary parallel, leading viewers—and listeners—down a seemingly endless direct path of gridded palms from dawn to dusk; a bio-commercial monoculture where ancient jungle once flourished. (…) All paths lead toward an apocalyptic dance floor, though speeds vary widely; rhythms dissolve from straight to broken, synth tempos operate by their own internal clocks (and logic). Juxtaposing industrial agriculture with rave culture, the album explores the industrialization and refinement of nature, and the new strange forms emerging from the synthetic grids of both.”
Julian Charrière will show the gallery version of An Invitation To Disappear in his solo exhibition As We Used To Float at Berlinische Galerie in Berlin, which opens on September 26. The album and video installation will be premiered at Berghain on the same day as a special event during Berlin Art Week. You can check out a teaser in the video above.
