You've never heard Tame Impala, Billie Eilish or Lil Nas X quite like this.

Some music is designed to take you to another dimension. But can it take you to eight different ones?

That’s the promise of a hallucinatory new practice called “8D audio”. Initially conceived in the 1970s under the field of ambisonics, it’s an immersive new mode of listening to music that alters the spatial source of the sound. That means music sounds as if its coming from above and below you as well as from around you. The music actually moves around your listening environment, giving sound a weird feeling of life that’s lacking in more “traditional” listening practices.

The applications for 8D audio technology span a host of different industries. But for now, we are pretty happy with just hearing our favorite pop songs given a new lease on life.

Thanks to YouTube channels like 8D Sounds and 8D Tunes, you can now listen to some of your favorite songs transposed into the 8th dimension. We’ve put some of favorite below for you to check out. Oh, and don’t forget to have your headphones ready!
