Gorillaz Hint That Another New Album May Be In The Works
A recent interview with Damon Albarn indicates that a full-length may be coming sooner rather than later.
If anything characterized the first half of 2017, it was the long, torturous act of waiting. The agony of waiting for the release of Gorillaz‘s much-anticipated new album Humanz— their first in seven years—was only alleviated by the satisfaction of finally rinsing the record and getting to hear a ton of great remixes along the way.
It seems, however, that waiting may not be such a big problem the next time round. In a recent interview with Q Magazine, Damon Albarn talked about the possibility of speeding up the release time between Humanz and the next LP. “If we’re going to do more with Gorillaz we don’t want to wait seven years because, y’know, we’re getting on a bit now,” Albarn said. Despite being in the midst of a huge world-wide tour, it might be the spontaneity of the live arena that is driving on the making of the new record. “I really like the idea of making new music and playing it live almost simultaneously…it will be a more complete record than The Fall, but hopefully have that spontaneity.”
No matter what happens, it’s definitely a positive sign for eager and impatient Gorillaz fans like us. Below, watch Electronic Beats’ exclusive filming of Gorillaz’s hour-and-a-half performance live in Cologne from earlier this year.
