Learn why artists like Ricardo Villalobos and Ben Klock are using Zähl Elektronik-Tontechnik’s AM1 Mixing Console.

Among music heads, Michael Zähl is a revered figure. In the early ’80s, Zähl was responsible for building custom mixing consoles for the studios of legendary Krautrock producer Conny Plank and seminal band Can, and his innovative approach to console design is etched into the sound of a mind-boggling number of classic albums and singles.

This week’s edition of our ongoing “Inside” video series takes a look at Michael Zähl’s Zähl Elektronik-Tontechnik company, and particularly about its flagship AM1 Mixing Console. Developed in collaboration with Mark Ernestus, the AM1 is now used by the likes of Ricardo Villalobos and Ben Klock. Now you can hear the story of how this beautiful piece of equipment came to be while also learning the philosophy behind Zähl’s uncompromising approach to sound.
