Listen To A New Sci-Fi-Inspired Mix By Techno Wizard Jeff Mills
The new mix explores the science fiction influences hidden behind Mills’ techno experimentalism.
Jeff Mills is back with a sweeping mix of sci-fi inspired music, interviews and film soundtracks. The Detroit techno pioneer has compiled the “From Here To There” mix for London’s Barbican Centre. In June, he will use that space to premiere the performance of his new record, The Planets, released earlier this year through his own Axis Records imprint.
Across a mere 30 minutes, Mills traverses audio footage that includes Einstein explaining his grand scientific discovery of E=MC2, music from Close Encounters Of The Third Kind and a track by Fela Kuti.
It also features two untitled cuts by Mills himself. Over the past few years, he’s been working on a series of soundtrack adaptations of iconic sci-fi masterpieces, like A Trip To The Moon and Metropolis.
